Castle Level Build V1
Progress has been slow but steady over the course of these past few days. As per my last devlog, I addressed a few items on my list of things to work on. Most obviously, the ceiling and walls of the playable area have been added, enclosing the player into actual rooms. Lighting has also been added to the walls and ceiling.
Second item of note, there is now a way to complete the game. By collecting the statue at the end of the level, the player can then traverse back to the start of the level to finish the level. This is signified by a particle spawning at the start of the level.
Lastly, and my personal favorite addition to this build, is the grappling feature. Originally, my goal was to add additional platforms to make each jump possible. After much thought, adding more platforms would increase the likelihood of a missed jump or bad collision, leading to more level resets than are necessary. Instead, adding a feature to the player that allows them to travel to any point they wish now gives the player agency in creating their own path forward. There are a few collision bugs that need to be worked out still, however. Mainly, if the player grapples onto the ceiling at the right angle, they will get stuck at the top of the level. Using the grapple feature again will actually clip the player on top of the level, allowing them to walk around. There is currently no known way to clip back into bounds once this happens.
Now, all that being said, there are still more things I would like to work on. Namely, the level has been cut short by quite a bit. Additional interior structure is needed to span the entirety of the level. In addition, I'd like to either fix the bug that clips the player through the level, or integrate it into the level's design and adding a path to take through the level if the player manages to get up "out of bounds".
